this week’s uk releases

Transformers: Age Of Extinction opens on Thursday so I’ll be going to a 9pm showing tonight.  I made my feelings clear in my editorial a few days ago.

The movie I am really looking forward to is Begin Again starring Mark Ruffalo and Keira Knightley.  The story centres around a music producer in Ruffalo who having lost his job finds a new singer/song writer in the form of Knightley.  He then persuades her to go out and record an album on the streets of New York.  There seems to be great chemistry between the two leads so fingers crossed.

The most talked about movie is the intriguing Boyhood.  Director Richard Linklater (School of Rock, Before Midnight, Bernie) spent 12 years filming a young man in real time for a few weeks each year.  It tells the fictional life story of Mason who we see age 6 and follow his life story to the verge of adult hood.  It’s surprising that it wasn’t released later in the year to make it an Oscar contender.
