Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes has opened to critical and popular acclaim in North American grossing $73m over the weekend. It has finally overthrown Transformers: Age Of Exstinksion which dropped to number two with a weekend gross of $16.5m. Despite a widespread panning the movie has managed $209m since release. Once can only assume that the desire to see just how bad this movie is has attracted audiences to theatres.
The top three was rounded out with Tammy that has proven far more successful across the pond with takings of $12.9m over the weekend and $57m since release. Maleficent is showing great legs after 7 weeks of release. It held the number 8 spot in the charts with a gross of $4,1m, contributing total takings of $222m. If the movie can maintain this momentum it might catch X-Men: Days Of Future Past which slipped to number thirteen which has managed $229m since release – it has been out for one week longer.
