uk box office review – 11th – 13th July

Oh the horror.  As expected Transformers: Age Of Exstinksion topped the UK box office on its “opening” weekend with a gross of £11.7m.  How To Train Your Dragon 2 also enjoyed a strong weekend with takings of £7.8m which suggests that if it follows the trend of these family movies it will be around for weeks and weeks.  The top three was rounded out by Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie which continues to perform well with a weekend gross of £1m and £11.8m since release.

The Richard Linklater movie Boyhood had a very strong opening given its limited release in just 89 cinemas.  The movie managed £0.33m which might (fingers crossed) to a wider release.  With Apes On Horses out this weekend I suspect Transformers’ stay at the stop will be very short.
