cannes-style film festival to appear in china

The Chinese Government appears determined to bring a film festival the equivalent of Cannes to a relatively under-developed coastal region.  China Daily is reporting that the plan is to spend $1bn to build a French / Gallic themed ‘film city’ in the coastal region of Zheijiang which is currently best known for its bamboo forests.

The region is three hours drive from the capital Beijing and the intent is to establish a new movie festival on the international calender that will showcase local movies and develop the industry.

There is no news on when the project will go ahead but this being China it will happen sooner rather than later.
