Well I decided I needed to find another image related to Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes. This time to herald the news that it has topped the UK weekend box office with a gross of £8.7m. If we assume a similar drop off to other movies next week’s gross will be in the region of £4.3m so it will probably fall just short of Michael Bay’s vomit fest but we’ll have to see if it has longer legs.
It’s even better news for distributor 20th Century Fox as another movie on their slate How To Train Your Dragon 2 held its ground in second place with weekend takings of £1.9m, or £12.8m since release. The top three was rounded out by Transformers: Age Of Exstinksion which saw an 85% fall on the previous week to £1.9m.
Boyhood achieved a remarkable feat as takings fell just 6% week on week which was largely thanks to it being available in more cinemas. The Lego Movie has briefly registered again as it benefits from the school holidays – the movie has taken £34.1m in UK cinemas 23 weeks after first release.
