young cinema goers impacting box office performance

Well it would appear the main movie goers in the UK are not 30-something movie bloggers like me.  According to 2013 figures from the BFI the people putting money in the pockets of cinema owners are seven to twenty four year-olds.  They represented 47% of movie admissions.

Despite there only being 33 animated releases last year they made up 20% of the total UK box office.  The success was driven by hits such as Frozen and Despicable Me 2.

The best news of all – 3D fell in popularity.  There’s hope yet.
