editorial: the purge – some ideas for reinvention

purge2

I felt so frustrated after watching The Purge: Anarchy because there is no much potential to create a rich other world and establish a classic new movie franchise.  I have no illusions that this is going to happen but below are some movie ideas that I recommend highly to the Studio:

The Purge: Family – the first movie I would make.  An intimate character study featuring two or three families as they prepare for and live through purge night.  It could deal with fears and insecurities brought about the circumstances of the evening.

The Purge: Rich Dogs – a view of purge night through the eyes of the rich and privileged.  You could even use the fate of the grand-dad as the route in.  It has all sorts of Running Man and Hunger Games connotations.

The Purge: Anarchy – I would remake the movie to focus on the activities of one of the purging gangs.  I would examine the motivations of the individuals and the complex inter-relationships within the gang.

The Purge: Founding Fathers – how did the New Founding Fathers of America (NFFA) come to be?  Were the motivations pure and become corrupted?  What happened to the more moderate factions of the group?

The Purge: Rebellion – we are introduced in The Purge: Anarchy to a group that is rising up against the annual event.  Why?  How?  What happens to the rebellion and its movement?

So there you have it, five ideas that I think could transform this franchise into something special.  I share them with the world for the movie makers to ignore as they see fit.  Perhaps I could begin a petition.  What do you think?  Do you have any ideas for other stories?
