Well I’m late again but this time I have good reason. I spent a thrilling evening dealing with Estate / Will planning for a future I hope is still a long way away.
The Inbetweeners 2 achieved something not most summer blockbusters haven’t this year by staying top of the charts for a second week in a row. The British comedy managed £4.3m last weekend taking its gross after just two weeks to £22.3m. Guardians of The Galaxy was second after enjoying a relatively small 33% drop in takings week-on-week at £2.1m.
It was no surprise to me that the underwhelming (to put it politely) Expendables 3 limped into the charts despite being the ‘big’ release last week managing just £1.6m at number three in the charts. Dawn of The Planet of The Apes is hanging around in fourth with weekend takings of £1m.
The sad thing for me was to see the poor performance of Hector And The Search For Happiness which has bombed at the UK box office after landing on the chat in ninth with just £0.2m. Robbie Collins from The Telegraph described it as the worst movie of the year so far but I think the response has been too harsh and it’s worth a watch so you can make your own mind up.
Just when you thought it had gone away Frozen is on the chart at number 15. Not a stellar performance at £0.09m but its still attracting film fans after 37 weeks on release. I’ll do my best to publish this report on Thursday next week.
