Guardians of The Galaxy has done the almost impossible in modern cinema by returning to the top of the North American box office after four weeks of release. The Marvel film grossed $17.2m over the weekend. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles slipped to second after a close battle managing takings of $16.7m.
The strongest new release was latest teenage literature adaptation If I Stay starring Chloe Grace Moretz. The film managed $15.6m failing to recreate the success of The Fault in Our Stars but given it cost only $11m to make it looks set to deliver a profit for the Studio as it’s still to be released internationally.
The big bust was Sin City: A Dame to Die For that could only manage 8th in the chart with $6.3m. Arguably the surprise hit was When The Game Stands Tall as this is not a film I am familiar with that arrived at number five with a weekend gross of $8.3m.
I’ll be going to see Sin City tomorrow so will post a review on Wednesday night but I am currently covering from watching What If starring Daniel Radcliffe – I don’t generally preview my reviews but this film is rubbish.
