First the good news. The Box Trolls spent a second week at the top of the UK cinema chart after a weekend gross of £1.33m. In a good sign for film fans everywhere it beat out the limp wristed A Walk Among The Tombstones that opened at number two with £1.31m.
Now for the bad news. The Guest has disappeared from the charts after just a couple of weeks on release. It’s a humerous take on the mystery man at the door genre. The Giver that I saw over the weekend has bombed spectacularly. There has next to no marketing support, it has had a relatively limited release and only took £0.18. It could be one and done for this admirably ambitious young adult flick that pushes the boundaries further than its more successful predecessors.
