If I had a handbag I’d be dancing around it. Gone Girl has managed to stay at number 1 in the North American weekend box office for a second week with takings of $26.8m. What makes the performance all the more impressive is that this is a small drop off of just 28.6% on the previous week. The film beat off competition from Dracula Untold ($23.4m) and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day ($19.1m).
The biggest disappointment was the opening weekend for The Judge, the new Robert Downey Junior vehicle, which could only managed fifth in the chart with a gross of $13.3m. At one point there had been Oscar buzz but I think that has been extinguished. Iron Man 4 anyone?
