I haven’t seen the number one film in North America over the weekend, Big Hero 6, but it must be bloody good. The film opened with $56m beating Interstellar into second place. Christopher Nolan’s latest project was expected to dominate but could only manage second. The weekend actuals of $47.5m are slightly down on the initial estimates of $50m. It’s early to declare but the film took $82.9m overseas and is still to open in China so seems to be getting a better reception outside North America.
Gone Girl is hanging around well after six weeks of release. The film managed third with $6.2m, $145m lifetime, which will have the studio bosses dancing all the way to the bank. The film has taken $303m worldwide against a reported budget of $61m.
