It looks like a busy weekend for new releases in the UK this weekend. It’s January so there’s no guarantee any of them will be any good. The one that excites me the most is Ex-Machina starring Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Isaac and Alicia Vikander. The film centres on the Gleeson character trying to figure what is real and what isn’t as he meets the outcome of an- AI experiment (Vikander). If it’s done well it could be the best mind bleep since Gone Girl (2014).
The most terrifying release this weekend is Mortdecai. I know no more about this film that it stars Johnny Depp in another quirky costume. Ermmmm … benefit of the doubt Barry, benefit of the doubt.
Oscar Isaac appears again this week in A Most Violent Year as an immigrant works to protect his business and his family from the violence that is taking over New York City. The final wide release film is The Gambler starring Mark Wahlberg and John Goodman. In this film Wahlberg plays a teacher by day with a penchant for getting himself into trouble gambling – with other people’s money.
All being well I’ll be over my cold and will be spending copious amounts of time in darkened rooms.
