The past weekend saw the effects of the half-term holidays on the top ten chart although Mr Grey and Miss Steele still dominated (pun intended). Fifty Shades of Grey held onto top spot despite a 66% week-on-week fall to £4.60m. Talking of the half-term holidays Big Hero 6 saw a 40% increase in weekend takings managing £2.59m while Shaun the Sheep Movie saw a 39% increase week-on-week to £2.43m.
There were three main releases. The best performing was The Wedding Ringer (haven’t seen it can’t comment) in fifth place with £0.99m. Project Almanac was close behind in sixth after an opening weekend of £0.87m. Blackhat has struggled to find wide distribution in the UK after bombing in the US only being available in 149 cinemas. It could only manage 14th spot after takings of £0.15m – ouch!
The other film I reviewed this week was the Jennifer Anniston drama, Cake, which on a limited release in 118 cinemas had takings of £0.11m. Not a surprise to me given the subject matter, it’s just not an audience-friendly movie.
