UK Weekend Box Office – 27th February to 1st March

Fifty Shades of Grey has finally been knocked off the top of the weekend charts as an alternative grey power took hold.  The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel enjoyed a very decent opening weekend with £3.77m.  Fifty dropped into second place raking in another £2.25m taking its total takings to a massive £30.31m.  I need to get writing.

The Will Smith vehicle Focus had a tepid opening in third place with £1.91m and I have a fear it could fade quickly.  The other new openings had an even worse experience.  The Boy Next Door could only manage seventh after achieving £0.41m while horror flick It Follows was just behind on a more limited distribution with £0.37m.

It’s going to be a rough March for theatre owners as there is very little coming out.  As such I’ll be keeping an eye out for the ongoing performance of Big Hero 6.  These films typically have legs and there is nothing new coming out to directly compete with it.
