The Filmnomore Movie Blog comments on the first International trailer for big mountain adventure Everest
Two trailers dropped recently for this film and I have chosen to review the International version as I live on the UK side of the pond. The film is based on a book I have read called Into Thin Air: A Personal Account of the Mt Everest Disaster which was written by Jon Krakauer. He survived the disaster that engulfed the 1996 climbing season in Nepal and wrote his account which as I understand it upset some of the relatives of those who died.
I found it an interesting read and there is material in it related to how people remember things when they are starved of oxygen and how people account for themselves when they survive and many others don’t. I suspect the film is going to focus more the tragedy and the fight for survival. The trailer appears to feature a mountain guide called Rob Hall (Jason Clarke) and his battle for survival. The radio call that you see in the trailer features in the book so they have pulled some material from real life. The question will be what changes and how big are they. I’m an Everest junkie having read multiple books so I’ll be towards the front of the queue to watch this. It’s also worth mentioning that it has a strong overall cast that includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Kiera Knightly, Josh Brolin and Emily Watson. They’ve clearly attempted to deliver something that is a cut above the ordinary.
