Z for Zachariah (2015) – Trailer Review

The Filmnomore Movie Blog tries to get to grips with the new trailer for Z for Zachariah

Z for Zachariah had its first screening at the Sundance Film Festival and has now released its first trailer.  The film stars Margot Robbie, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Chris Pine and is directed by Craig Zobel.  The film is based on a novel written by Robert C. O’brien.  The story is set in world that has been devastated by nuclear war but there appears to a single valley that has been spared the carnage.  We see Robbie’s character run into the paranoid Ejiofor – contact between people is so rare there is a problem with them connecting.  The distrust probably comes from the fight for survival and need to rely on one’s own gifts to stay alive.

The two characters appear to warm to each other but their cosy world is disrupted when ole blue eyes turns up as the mysterious Caleb.  Ejiofor takes against him although this may be down to jealousy as he sees Robbie and Pine establishing a relationship of their own.  I can only guess at the moment that the drama is going to focus on people getting used to being in touch with their emotions again after having to deal with long periods of isolation.  The trailer attempts to introduce an air of suspicion around the arrival of Pine and I’ll be interested to see if there’s more to the valley and meets the eye.  Why did this valley survive the nuclear holocaust?  Check out the trailer below and let me know what you think.
