Sorry, I was just clearing my throat. No surprises as dinosaurs run amok in UK cinemas … as well
I haven’t bothered to attach a spoiler warning to this blog as I think it is fair to say that the cat is out of the bag. Jurassic World scored a massive opening weekend in the UK managing £19.4m in a market where a £6m opening can turn heads. To put this into perspective this was as near as makes no difference five times the box office take of all of the other films in the top ten combined. We do love our dinosaurs. It deserves to do well as a wonderful homage to the original (and still the best) Jurassic Park (1993).
Spy slipped one place to number two following a strong week in which takings fell a modest 39% to £1.5m although the film may have benefited from a a lack of other new releases as distributors left Jurassic World to feast on its own. Looking a little further down the two staples of the box office chart Pitch Perfect 2 and Mad Max: Fury Road seem glued together in fifth and sixth place taking £0.41m and £0.40m respectively. ‘Tomorrowland Watch’ continues as it clings onto tenth spot with £0.12m. There’s still time to watch this … you know you want to!
