We wave goodbye to the dinosaurs on this side of the pond
There has been a changing of the guard at the UK box office as Minions proved themselves as popular as ever toppling the mighty Jurassic World. Opening last weekend in the UK Minions managed £11.6m which while not in the same bracket as Jurassic World is still a superstar performance and suggests a really strong performance when it hits the US. Speaking of dinosaurs the Chris Pratt-led leviathan managed £5.8m (£48.9m since release). Spy managed third place showing plenty of legs after sales fell just 32% to £0.6m.
Mr. Holmes held onto fourth place after bringing in £0.4m which while not a record breaking number has taken total sales to £1.7m for a small release through BBC Films. Looking a little wider, home invasion adult drama Knock Knock starring Keanu Reeves doesn’t look long for this world after it only managed £0.25m on its opening weekend albeit on a relatively small release. There was little marketing for this film and I think it’s been released to see if it claw a little money back.
