UK Weekend Box Office – 11th to 13th September

Another legend develops

I didn’t expect this result.  The legend of the Kray’s grows ever greater as the latest film version of their story dominated the UK box office on its opening weekend.  Legend took £5.2m to top the chart comfortably beating the other main release, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, that managed a respectable £2.8m.  I haven’t seen Legend but that’s a hell of a result for a relatively small film.  I’m putting it down to the regional fascination with the central characters.  The Scorch Trials was a decent movie and deserved to do well.

The top three was completed by another new entry as The Visit repeated its success from its opening in the US.  Here in the UK the film managed a little over £1m.  Inside Out is refusing to die at the box office and finds itself in the fifth spot after eight weeks on release with £0.6m  One final thing – what the hell is Pixels doing in the top 10?  Number 7 after five weeks?  Holy mother of God.  Says a lot about the recent week slate of releases more than anything.
